About Us
Our dairy farm is located in Aldergrove in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia.
After immigrating from Norway in 1926 and working as a miner in Princeton and the Hedley copper mine, August Antonsen purchased the farm in 1943. Gus started clearing trees and selling the wood for fuel. Losing his wife just 3 months after the birth of his only son Harvey, Gus hired a housekeeper to help raise his baby boy, and began purchasing some cows to sell milk. In 1963 Harvey came back to the farm after working in northern Alberta for 2 years. They began purchasing more cows and breeding for production from some non registered Holsteins. Harvey soon began registering the cows, and enrolled the herd with DHI.
In 1970 Harvey married Dianne Peterson (originally from Caroline, AB) and they had 2 boys, Brad born in 1971 and Kevin in 1973. Both graduated and left home. Brad became a teacher, and is currently teaching in Chilliwack, BC, and Kevin got a technology diploma and worked in Alberta for 4 1/2 years at a phone company. In 1997 Kevin married Carol Penner from Langley and moved back to the family farm in 1998, after spending a year milking and working at another neighbouring dairy farm. Kevin and Carol had 3 children Julianna (2000), Tamara (2001), and Ian (2002). Kevin acquired a keen interest in good purebred cows and purchased a fresh 2 year old from a club sale. Cedarwal Charity Storm VG86 became one of the foundation cows in their herd. He began using embryo transfer to rapidly increase the quality of the herd, breeding for solid feet and legs and good quality, well attached udders. Attending annual local club sales and travelling to Alberta to a few sales Kevin has purchased a few good heifers and young cows that would add genetic potential to the herd.
Today, we milk 60 cows twice a day, raising our own replacement stock and selling surplus animals. Our current herd is 84% GP and better with 1 ME, 1 EX, 19VG, 38GP. Rolling herd BCA average is 248 240 245 with 11,481 KG milk, 412 Kg Fat, 360 Kg Protein at 305 days.
